Hello and welcome to the final edition of the Cumbria Guide for 2024! Can you believe how quickly this year has flown by? It feels like just yesterday we were longing for a summer that never quite arrived, but now, as we approach the festive season, it’s time to reflect on a wonderful year and look forward to 2025.
In this issue, we’ve packed the pages with everything you need for the festive season: from festive events and food to a special local gift guide brimming with ideas for those one-of-a-kind presents. Whether you’re seeking Christmas markets, light switch-ons, or activities for the whole family, we’ve got you covered. Expect great food vendors, live music, and plenty of entertainment to keep the kids smiling.
2024 has been a memorable year, and one highlight was the stunning displays of the Northern Lights that lit up the Cumbrian skies. We were overwhelmed by the beautiful photos you shared on social media, and we’ve included a selection in this edition to brighten up the magazine. A huge thank you to everyone who sent them in!
One of our favourite places during the festive season is Carlisle’s Historic Quarter. Despite the ongoing roadworks, the businesses here remain open and thriving, and we wanted to shine a spotlight on all the fantastic shops and eateries that call this part of the city home.
As always, our food section is a feast in itself, packed with festive recipes and recommendations for local restaurants, pubs, and eateries. Many are already preparing their festive menus, so we recommend booking early, as spots fill up quickly!
As we move through this busy shopping season, we encourage you to shop local whenever possible. It’s been a tough year for high streets across the country, and our local businesses need our support to keep thriving. Every purchase you make locally helps keep our community alive.
