Carlisle’s three-night City of Lights event attracted more than 4,000 visitors and has been hailed a ‘resounding success’.

The Carlisle City Council event featured lighting of the city’s key historic landmarks and a spectacular sound and light experience at Carlisle Cathedral, Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery Gardens and Carlisle Castle.

It was held over three nights between Friday 21 and Sunday 23 October. Tickets provided access to all the venues on the same night.

This year’s event was part of the Hadrian’s Wall 1900 Festival and ticket holders were transported through time from the present day to Roman times in Luguvalium – Carlisle.

The event started at Carlisle Cathedral, followed by Tullie House and then ending at Carlisle Castle with sound and light projected on to buildings transforming their facades.

City of Lights was organised by the Discover Carlisle team (Carlisle City Council), Luxmuralis, On Cue Productions and Just Beam It in association with Cumbria County Council.

Carlisle City Cllr Stephen Higgs, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Heritage and Leisure said:

“Carlisle City of Lights was a resounding success and I’d like to thank all those in involved in making it happen. It has been part of our events programme since 2020 and we have worked hard to make this event bigger and better featuring Carlisle Cathedral, Tullie House and Carlisle Castle. This year it celebrated Carlisle’s Roman heritage and linked in with the Hadrian’s Wall 1900 Festival.

“We have more events planned this autumn and winter, including the Fireshow, Lights Switch-On and Christmas Market. Visit www.discovercarlisle.co.uk
