Bright year ahead for WTC
As we step into spring and with summer just around the corner, the team at Whitehaven Town Council have been busy bees, working hard to ensure this year’s annual event programme is packed with many exciting events.
The popular monthly Cumbrian Traders Market returns to the glorious gardens of St. Nicholas’ Church. This year, the busy markets will be held on the last Thursday of each month from May to August.
The markets not only bring local makers, bakers, and creators together to showcase their wares from across the county; they also bring many people together who enjoy all that is on offer.
WTC will be taking part in national events to mark the anniversary of D-Day on June 5th, which will include the lighting of a beacon in St. Nicholas Gardens and the illumination of the tower.
A week later, on June 12th, the Town Council will be hosting their 5th annual science show for schools and the public, with support from Sellafield and their supply chain companies.
The inaugural Flower and Vegetable Show was such a hit last year that it will make a welcome return in September. So you have plenty of time for planning and planting ahead. The organisers are expecting even more fantastic produce this year.
The team is busy planning ahead for November and December, which will see the hugely popular fireworks display light up the harbour, followed by the Christmas markets in December.
Whitehaven Town Council’s aim with its events programme is to re-engage people with the town centre to help support existing businesses across Whitehaven and to help create a framework for more to set up.
