Cycle The Solway: Charity Cycle Ride Returns This Summer

Cycle The Solway: A Fun Day

This July, hundreds of cyclists will enjoy the summer sunshine or battle through the rain to take part in the annual Cycle the Solway.

From 21 – 22 July, Cycle the Solway will return to the quiet roads of the Solway Coast raising money in aid of Eden Valley Hospice, Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice and Watchtree Nature Reserve.

For the very first time 2018’s event will take place over two days and will be a festival of cycling for the whole family, starting and finishing at the scenic Watchtree Nature Reserve.
On Saturday 21 July there will be two cycle routes undertaken, 50km and 100km, both with feed stations along the way. On Sunday 22 July there will be a Family Fun Ride around the scenic Watchtree Nature Reserve where fundraisers will be challenged to complete as many laps as they wish. There will be lots of entertainment, food and much more over the two days.

Sam Johnston, Community and Events Fundraiser at Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw said: “We are delighted to be able to continue with this wonderful cycling event in 2018. The event has been a huge success over the years and many participants were keen for the event to continue this year.

“We are delighted to have joined forces with Watchtree Nature Reserve for this year’s event and to have added an extra day of cycling too. There really is a route for everybody over the two days of cycling. We are also very grateful to everyone at Thompson’s Accident Repair Centre in Carlisle, for all their work and sponsoring this year’s event.”

Ryan Dobson, Manager at Watchtree Nature Reserve commented: “Watchtree has had aspirations of hosting a sportive for years so this opportunity was too good to miss. We’re sure the combined knowledge and experience of Eden Valley Hospice, Watchtree and Thompsons will be a winning formula – the glorious routes of the Solway and Watchtree itself can only improve our chances of making this event a great success.

“Our input will bring about a few changes which are intended to attract a greater diversity of riders, whilst still offering a challenge to all.”
The money raised by all the fundraising cyclists taking part in this year’s Cycle the Solway will be shared between Eden Valley Hospice & Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice and Watchtree Nature Reserve.
