The Beacon always has fantastic exhibitions and lots of fun, interactive activities to get involved in as well as events and workshops to keep the kids entertained during the Easter holidays.


CHILDRENS EVENTS:

 Hundith Hill Advert

Pet Encounters
29 March 2024, 11 April 2024;

11am, 1pm, 3pm

We welcome the incredible Pet Encounters team who will teach you about their beautiful animals, their habitat, where they originate from, and how to care and look after them. You’ll also get a chance to hold and interact with many of the animals.

Allergy warning: Please note this event will include animals with fur including rabbits, hares, meerkats, and gerbils.

£7.50 per child, £2.50 per adult. Museum admission not included.

Spring Workshops
30 March – 1 April 2024,
8 April – 10 April 2024;
11am, 2pm

Join us for a spring-themed craft workshop to make your own cuddly pop-pom animals and learn how baby animals use down, fur and feathers to stay warm and dry in the spring weather. £10 per child, includes one accompanying adult. Museum admission not included.

Quiet Hour
7 April 2024;
10am-11am

This will provide a calmer environment with fewer people, which will be useful for anyone who needs it. The sound will be lowered on our interactive exhibits, and our lighting will be more subdued.

Flip Entertainment Magic Show
12 April 2024;
11am, 1pm, 3pm

We’re delighted to welcome Flip Entertainments back to The Beacon Museum. Together with colourful props and his fresh and modern approach, he ensures that children of all ages will be kept entertained and amused throughout. Flip mixes magic tricks galore, madcap juggling, fun & games along with plenty of audience participation. A recipe for a great show that children and adults alike will talk about for years to come. £7.50 per child, £2.50 per adult. Museum admission not included.

Mini Golf: Cumberland Edition
Until 14 April 2024

Discover the historic sites of Cumbria such as Hadrian’s Wall, Whitehaven Harbour and Castlerigg Stone Circle in our playable 9-hole mini golf course. Don’t miss your chance to play before the exhibition closes on 14 April.

L. S. Lowry
Until 14 April 2024
Discover the work of L. S. Lowry, his connection to
Cumberland, and his friendships with Cumbrian artists
in this new exhibition.

Second Thoughts
27 April – 23 June 2024

A community exhibition brought to you by local textile group Fabricate. View a collection of fibre artworks made from recycled materials.

May the Toys be With You
27 April – 13 July 2024
The Force is strong at The Beacon Museum! From a galaxy far, far away comes an absolute must-see exhibition of one of the UK’s finest collections of vintage Star Wars toys and original cinema posters.


ADULT WORKSHOPS:

Spring Living Wreath Workshop
24 March 2024

Join Emma from Eliza & Flo who will provide you with all the materials you need to craft your wreath from scratch. This includes using moss and foliage to build up the frame of your wreath and then choosing from a wide array of decorations to suit your style. £57.50 per person.

RD Glass Workshop
14 April 2024

Join us at The Beacon Portal for an introductory taster session of working with glass. Learn a new skill and have fun being creative with hands on instruction and guidance.During the course you will learn all you need to know to produce simple fused and slumped items, including an introduction to different types of glass, compatibility, do’s and don’ts and how to cut glass.

All materials and use of equipment are included in the price. £35 per person.

Lowry’s Cleator Moor: Walk and Talk
16 March, 23 March 2024; 11am

Join Tony Calvin, co-curator of The Beacon Museum’s
L. S. Lowry exhibition, for a walking tour of Lowry’s Cleator Moor and learn the stories behind paintings such as the Elite Fish and Chip Shop and the Broken Window. Free, but booking is required.
