Animal Charity plans for reopening of site and Charity Shop

Oak Tree Animals’ Charity at Wetheral Shields is delighted to be opening their site to the public from 17 th June, during the hours of 1.00pm – 4.00 pm, Wednesdays- Friday and 11.00-4.00pm at weekends. There will be social distancing measures in place and plenty of hand sanitizers placed around the site to comply with the current regulations.

During lockdown, the Charity was thrilled to welcome two newborn foals, Cosmo and Daisy, and these two foals can be seen grazing and playing in the paddock alongside their mums and the other resident ponies. Oak Tree’s cheeky goat, Matilda, along with the other goats, Barney and Charlie, will be pleased to say hello and welcome the public back.

The Charity is asking the public who wish to enquire about rehoming animals, visit the Tack Shack, hiring the paddock area/snuffle run or hiring the arena to call 01228 560082 during opening hours to make an appointment, or email [email protected].  Due to the current restrictions, Oak Tree is not yet able to open the Tearoom and children’s playground so both will remain closed on site until the Charity receives further instructions which will be posted on their website www.oaktreeanimals.org.uk.

Caroline Johnson, General Manager says “We are delighted to be reopening the site, albeit on a gradual basis, and welcoming the public back after a challenging few months. The safety of our visitors, volunteers and staff is paramount and we have adapted our site and ways of working, and thank all of our visitors for helping us ensure that everyone remains safe at Oak Tree Farm. We would love you to come and see the two gorgeous new foals that were born during lockdown and who are such a delight to watch. The gradual reopening is the first step towards returning to a sense of normality, and we hope it won’t be long before we can resume full opening hours and operations.  In the meantime, we thank our supporters for their patience and understanding and look forward to opening our doors again on Wednesday”.

Oak Tree’s charity shop in Keswick will be open from 17 th June, on Wednesday – Sunday each week and the opening times will be 11.00am – 4.00pm. The shop is very happy to receive donations and, to comply with strict regulations, they ask if people can drop off items on Wednesdays between 11.00am – 1.00pm and on Fridays between 2.00pm – 4.00pm.  The shop will be unable to receive donations at other times.  The Charity’s shop in Carlisle will remain closed for the time being and donations can be dropped off at Oak Tree’s main site in Wetheral although, due to limited space, they are currently unable to accept duvets and pillows.
