Eden committee agrees cash awards for worthwhile causes
Members of Cumbria County Council’s Local Committee for Eden met on Tuesday 15 November 2022 and agreed to support a number of local projects with cash grants.
Members agreed to fund a PAUSE programme in Eden and an award of £11,040 was approved by the committee. Funds will contribute to a county-wide pilot project which aims to work with women and help reduce the number of children going into care. In addition, members approved a funding award of £1266 as a contribution to a Cumbria-wide awards scheme, which aims to recognise equality and diversity within businesses and organisations. The scheme will be delivered by `Sticky Bits CIC`.
Members also received an update on the work of Eden Local Committee’s Children and Young People’s Working Group. At the recent 0-19 grant panel, a number of projects which aim to benefit children and young people in Eden received grant awards. These included Dacre Playground Institute which was awarded £2000 towards the renovation of the play area, as well as Park Play which received an award of £2000 toward the set-up costs of a new scheme at Pategill Playground, Penrith. The initiative will run two hours of activity sessions every Saturday morning, for all ages and abilities.
In addition, members of Eden Local Committee approved a recommendation for an award of £8000 from the Eden 11-19 Universal Youth Provision Fund to Penrith Youth Club. The newly established youth club is being delivered by Riverside Group at Eden Rural Foyer. The funding will contribute to the purchase of equipment, furniture and games for club activities.
Cllr Phil Dew, Chair of Eden Local Committee said: “It is really pleasing to see how our funding streams can support so many different groups and initiatives in the community.
“Our 0-19 fund aims to support projects that create benefit for young people in Eden. The fund is open all year round and applications are considered from constituted community groups.”
