Not only is Cafe Lanercost the best cafe in Cumbria, it’s officially the best cafe in England too!
Just two years after opening its doors, Lanercost Tea Room and Gift Shop, near Brampton, has been awarded Best Cafe in England 2023.
The lovely little cafe and boutique gift shop is set within the grounds of Lanercost Priory and is simply stunning.
Lanercost Tea Rooms has been transformed over the last three years, striving to serve customers something unforgettable. From their own in-house roasted coffee to traditionally handmade pizzas, they have always gone the extra mile to give diners a memorable experience.
The cafe, gift shop, and restaurant have faced many challenges since opening in 2021. Having been taken over by Stefano Calcioli while we were coming out of the pandemic and then a fire in 2022 set them back once again, however they never wavered and since then, they have gone from strength to strength, having now grown from what was once a standard stand-alone cafe to a gourmet tea room, a boutique gift shop, and a contemporary Italian-inspired evening restaurant.
Their boutique gift shop has its own unique style and they sell some beautiful items, stocking brands such as One Hundred Stars, Kaffe, Charli, Parklane and Suzie Blue. It’s the perfect place to find a unique and quirky gift or just to treat yourself!

In October 2023 they were awarded The Best Cafe in England by England Business Awards. For this humble tea room to gain such recognition is testament to their hard work and the quality of not only their delicious food but also their outstanding customer service.
The cafe has also recently extended their opening times and the cafe and gift shop will now be open seven days a week, 9:30am to 4pm, from March 11th. They will also open their evening restaurant on Friday and Saturday evenings, where they will serve customers a beautiful, Italian-inspired, gourmet menu.
