The Light District: SPACE – God, The Universe And Everything is coming to St Bees Priory, Thursday 14 to Friday 15 March, 2024.

SPACE: God, the Universe and Everything is inspired by the 1969 Moon landings. Created by the award-winning Luxmuralis artistic collaboration, it will take people on a walking journey through St Bees Priory, revealing the universe, galaxies, space, creation, and light through a variety of sound and light installations that will transform the Priory.

In addition to the sound and light installations, Cumberland Council will deploy architectural lighting to highlight the Priory and its setting, making it a real beacon for the town.

The Light District is a new Cumberland Council programme of events.

The council’s Discover Carlisle team, supported by funding from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, is working in partnership with Luxmuralis to showcase SPACE – God, The Universe And Everything.

The event is also organised with the support of St Bees Parish Council, St Bees School and Sellafield Ltd.

The Light District builds on the success of Carlisle City of Lights and Workington Hall Lights which have both been hugely popular over recent years.

Luxmuralis is an artistic collaboration between artist and sculptor Peter Walker and composer David Harper. Together through fine art, sound and light they transform and reinterpret the sense of place in unique spaces both in the UK and abroad; creatively helping an audience to take a physical and emotional journey to identify with subjects and message of the artworks created through the Son-et-Lumiere and sculptural installations. Luxmuralis’ spectacular sound and light shows have been seen in a wide variety of places taking art onto the streets and to unique places.
