Taste Cumbria returns to Maryport 13 & 14 August 2022
The county’s favourite food festival is heading back in Maryport for a two-day extravaganza of local flavours and family fun.
The Taste Cumbria ‘Taste of the Sea’ event takes place in this pretty harbour town on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 August 2022.
There will be a producers’ market at the top of Senhouse Street and, down on the harbourside, a hot food court, drinks tent, live music and a picnic field. That area will also be used to promote fish and seafood from this coastline, alongside a young entrepreneurs’ market.
The event will also feature chefs’ demonstrations, a children’s fairground, face painters and fishy-themed crafts, as well as a new treasure hunt with clues created by the primary and junior schools at ‘Little Pictures’ workshops.
Throughout the town, pubs and eateries will be getting involved with entertainment during the day and evening, while the ever-popular Taste Cumbria Comedy Night is taking place at Maryport Rugby Club with Clinton Baptiste, star of Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights, in the headline spot. There will even be a Cake Off Competition for budding bakers to show off their skills.
Councillor Mike Johnson, leader of Allerdale Borough Council, the organisers of the event, said: “We held a Taste Cumbria festival in Maryport for the first time last year and it was an amazing success. Independent research showed it brought more than half a million pounds into the local economy and it brought people together after a year of lockdowns.
“We can’t wait to stage another brilliant showcase for Cumbria and the wealth of fabulous food and drink on offer.”
