Photographer in Focus – Sheila Ivison
If you follow us on social media, you’ll know that we are all about showcasing local talent and highlighting the very best of our region.
Sheila Ivison lives in Workington and is the latest photographer who has shared her passion with us. She’s currently recovering from a hip replacement surgery a few months ago which has affected her style of photography. Sheila used to do a lot of landscapes but lack of mobility kept her closer to home and meant she branched into areas like wildlife photography, Macro shots and Water Droplet collisions. She was also recently invited to take photographs of light painting in Blackpool.

She has been a keen photographer for 6 years since deciding she wanted to take more than just happy snaps and started with a basic bridge camera but wanted to take it further so she upgraded to DSLR.

She believes you don’t need the best equipment to take great photos: “Most of my equipment is second hand but it’s important to learn your camera’s settings. Take your time and be prepared to experiment with different styles.

Remember the rule of thirds as it helps you take eye-catching pictures using one of the most effective rules of composition. Photography is for everyone old, young, disabled, its a great hobby and there is always something to photograph no matter what, or where, it is.”

We wish Sheila a speedy recovery and hope to see her back up the fells soon with her trusted Canon cameras.
