There’s a jewel in the Crown & Mitre: Peace & Plenty Restaurant!

A jewel in the Crown & Mitre

Peace & Plenty Restaurant – a foodie haven hidden in plain sight.

The Peace & Plenty is exactly that ‒ tucked inside the Crown & Mitre is where you will find the Peace & Plenty. Prepare to be surprised.

Me and my lady boss opted to check out Peace & Plenty and try  their new a la carte menu, and honestly, what a great move that was.

The decor is novel, with remnants of a carousel dominating the room; the lights are brilliant; overall it is well laid out and beautifully presented. Modern, comfortable, contemporary, and relaxing ‒ it is a fantastic space indeed.

For the starter, I opted for the Scottish Smoked Salmon, Salmon Mousse, Herb Creme Fraiche, Capers, and Rye Bread; every aspect was absolutely on point and delicious.

My other half wasn’t going to bother with a starter; however, once she tucked into her choice of Twice Baked Cheese Souffle with Apple and Endive Salad, she was certainly glad she did. I haven’t heard her moan and say ‘Oh my God’ like that for quite a while. It is safe to say she enjoyed every morsel.

Onto round two, I decided to opt for more oceanic delights considering the starter, so Pan Fried Cod with Spring Onion Mash, Tenderstem, and Mussel Cream Sauce.

The starter was amazing, but this was on another level.

Fish can be a tricky dish, but this was awesome. The sauce was unbelievable ‒ mouthwatering ‒ smooth and, oh, so tasty, with the odd mussel in amongst it ‒ not too much nor too little ‒ and the mash was smooth, creamy, and delicious. I don’t know about the tender stem, as I don’t know what they are and can’t be bothered googling it. Either way, they must be tasty. All in all, a 10/10 from me.

Meanwhile, the gaffer opted for the rump steak, Pommes Anna, buttered spinach, bone marrow, and peppercorn gravy, which she devoured. The steak was cooked to perfection, and the Pommes-Anna were something she’d never had before; I’d never heard of them either. Thinly sliced potatoes, stacked and fried, gave you a crisp, crunchy mouthful of smiles.

The vegetables were absolutely on point ‒ something that can make or break a meal and something that many restaurants fail to score on, surprisingly. ‘Beautiful’ were Kat’s words, and she loves her greens.

To finish off the meal, only one dessert was ordered; it shouldn’t have been ordered to be fair; we were both stuffed, and I was watching my waistline, well, watching it expand. But the little voice in my head said I deserved it, so order I did.

I went for the Creme Brulee with Shortbread and Raspberries ‒ we both devoured that; the combo was perfect and a great way to finish off a great service.

Speaking of service, we were in good hands with Kirsty Allan, who made us very welcome and comfortable, and she was a great craic ‒ happy, pleasant, and served us with a smile from start to finish.

If you love great food in a great setting in the heart of Carlisle, check it out, and why not check in? We did, and our room overlooking the town hall was pristine, cosy, and comfortable.

In the morning, I stood and watched Carlisle slowly come to life before heading on our way – perfect.

The only problem that comes to mind is that the a la carte menu has too many great options to choose from and my 30″ jeans were a struggle to get into the next day…

I suppose we will have to go back!
