THE BRIARY IS BACK

The Briery Hotel, Stainburn, is back in business and the residents are delighted.

Now, many reading this will proceed with a pinch of scepticism, and rightly so, given the relentless opening and closing of the place. It has had nearly as many managers as Manchester United in the last few years, and that says something.

However, this is a brand-new chapter. The Briery Hotel is now under the watchful eye of a man with a plan: Tom Nash.

Since opening its doors, the place has been thriving. The votes are in, and the good folk of Stainburn are loving it, as are many who are travelling from further afield for the food being served up.

Tom knows the industry inside and out; he has been at it for decades, and The Briery Hotel is the third business he is currently running in Cumbria. The Lake View Bar, Grill and Carvery in Bowness-on-Windermere has a grand reputation, as does Tom’s other business, Greystoke Castle.

We have worked with Tom for the last 18 months, and it has been one project after another bringing Greystoke Castle to life with events. That same drive and attention to detail is now being brought to The Briery Hotel, as he has plenty of plans in place to make it even more appealing to the masses.

When Tom called and asked, “What do you think of The Briery?”, my first reaction was, “Don’t touch it with a barge pole; the brewery will kill it. The building is lovely, but no.” However, Tom explained that the brewery was fully onside, so it was a no-brainer. I knew then that this place would take off.

A team was quickly pulled together, led by Andy, who is managing the business. He has a great track record in the industry and a brilliant team in place. With that, everything is running as smoothly as can be, and the place is bustling.

The menu, when announced, brought nothing but positive chatter on social media—not one bad word, which is rare indeed. So many folk simply want a great place to eat and drink, where quality service and food are served at a reasonable price, and that is exactly what is on offer here. Tom even managed to wangle a great price for the beers; for instance, a pint of Carlsberg or Tetley will set you back £3.50. They also have premium beers such as Erdinger and Estrella at £5.95 a pint.

The place is spotless, inside and out. People are raving about the food, the pricing structure, and they are very vocal about the level of service from the team. All in all, The Briery is one local restaurant you really must visit.

“We called in for a light lunch having recently opened we thought we would give it a go. We both got the steak ciabatta with fries and salad and it was beautiful, well presented and perfectly cooked. The menu is very reasonably priced and has a wide selction. The Briery is beautiful inside and so welcoming, the staff are extremely friendly and we will most definitely return. If you haven’t yet visited I would recommend you do.”

“I ate at The Briery last Friday, enjoying some tasty food in a spacious dining room where there wasn’t a seat spare. The staff generously squeezed us in without a reservation and were very accommodating throughout. The star of the show for me was the fiery peppercorn sauce that accompanied my main. Paired with the homemade chips, The Briery are onto a winner! Wishing the new team continuing success!”

“Had a really lovely meal here! The food was absolutely delicious, with plenty of choice and really good portions. The prices were very reasonable too, especially for the quality of the food. The staff were warm, friendly and welcoming, and made us feel really comfortable from the moment we arrived. The place was absolutely packed, which is always a great sign! Really enjoyed our visit and would definitely recommend giving it a try. We’ll certainly be back!”
