Special Expressions Bring a Bit of the States to the Lakes
Special Expressions bring Stateside style to Keswick, with two new international jewellery lines.
The unique Keswick jewellery shop, which specialises in distinctive ‘ear-wear’ and accessories from around the world, has introduced a brand new selection of handcrafted jewellery from the USA.
Special Expressions have recently started stocking popular American jewellers, Peter James and Mark Steel, two brands which have been admired by owners, Deb Garton and Roy Johnson for many years.
Deb and Roy first came across Peter James Jewelry in a shop in San Francisco 20 years ago and instantly fell in love with the pieces. Since 1972 they have been handcrafted in the Sausalito studio, using innovative techniques to transform wire and sheet metals into wearable works of art.
Designers Lynette and Erika are a mother and daughter team, bringing together their different histories and training, to create pieces that are both timeless and elegant, while also pushing the envelope when it comes to dramatic flair and style.
Deb, who is excited to finally be bringing the range to Keswick, explained: “They were a product that we saw in the States many years ago. We happened to come across a store in San Francisco where I bought my first ear spiral and they also stocked Peter James Jewelry. I’ve always wanted to have it.”
A few years later at a jewellery show, Deb and Roy discovered Mark Steel, a brand renowned for designing and creating unique earrings, rings and bracelets in the stunning valley of Kamas in Utah. A selection of their beautifully designed, handcrafted sterling silver and gold earrings is now available at Special Expressions.
These two new American lines will complement the shop’s already impressive selection of exquisite jewellery, including designs from Marty Magic of California, EarCharms- an alternative to ear piercing also from California, Storm and Sekonda Watches.
Deb said: “We do try to source products that are unusual and focus on a lot of American jewellery designers. The American influence comes partly from the fact that I like things that are different and quirky, that no one else has.”
