Jason said, “It has been so busy since opening; the support has been brilliant, and people are delighted with the menu. I describe it as good, local, hearty, filling, and of exceptional value.”

Jason, who has over twenty years in the hospitality industry, said, “I started in the trade when I was 16; basically, my dad fired me from the family business, Moss Bay Metals, so I traded scrap for cash and  haven’t looked back since.”

What are the most popular dishes?

“Our pies which are made daily, are the favourites, followed by our Sunday carvery.”

Here at The Rum Story Cafe, you can start the day with a Full English, which is a struggle to finish and consists of 2 x bacon, 2 x sausage, one black pudding, tomato, mushrooms, 2 hashbrowns, 2 slices of toast, and 2 eggs. £8.45 Breakfast is served from 9 – 11.30 every day. Mon-Sun

The Happy Hangover Mega Breakfast is also available for those in serious need of a pick-me-up after a mega session. Not for the faint-hearted, this consists of all of the above, but with three of everything. Now that is a challenge and a guaranteed cure.

Sunday Carvery is available from 11.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. and can be eaten in the cafe or courtyard, picked up, or delivered to your home. The Sunday carveries are already famous for their deliciousness and generous portions. Adults  £9.95, children’s £5.95.

The Rum Story Cafe & Courtyard is a superb setting, and the Vault is perfect for any occasion.

If you are looking for a venue to host a wedding, baby shower, christening or afternoon tea, come and take a look.

The Vault was the original Jefferson rum warehouse back in the day; it is such a historical and unique setting, making it the perfect venue for any occasion.

Jason has many ideas bubbling away and intends to bring something unique to the market.

“We intend to use these spaces in as many innovative ways as possible, with tapas – cocktail and live music nights planned for the courtyard, balcony and intimate cafe space.

We have also teamed up with Cumbrian superheroes and princesses so that children can come along and have breakfast with them during the school holidays in The Vault.

“Whitehaven has so much going for it; there is so much to do and so many great businesses. I am simply trying to bring something else into the town for people to enjoy,” said Jason.

The Rum Story Cafe Courtyard and Vault are open every day.
