A collection of some of the very best wildlife photographs in the world are coming to Whitehaven, as the renowned Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition returns to The Beacon.
On display from until January 2, the Whitehaven museum and gallery is the only venue in the North West to host the exhibition as part of this year’s tour, which is set to visit more than 60 cities in the UK and worldwide.
The exhibition, which is on loan from the National History Museum in London, celebrates the 100 award winning entries of the esteemed Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. The competition has become one of the most prestigious and innovative photographic competitions today, attracting thousands of entries from over 100 countries across the world.
The winning images are traditionally chosen for their artistic composition, technical innovation and truthful interpretation of the natural world. The result is an awe-inspiring exhibition featuring 100 photographs that depict the abundance, majesty and vulnerability of life on our planet.
The annual exhibition has become the most acclaimed event of its kind, renowned for inspiring audiences with the diversity of nature, showing everything from fascinating animal behaviour to breathtaking landscapes. The Natural History Museum has been touring the exhibition since 1990, giving venues the opportunity to showcase some of the world’s best wildlife imagery.
Last year 150,000 people flocked to visit the exhibition at the Natural History Museum and overall the photographs were seen by more than a million people, after both UK and international tours. The Beacon is delighted to once again be able to bring this global spectacle to a platform in West Cumbria. At a location right in the heart of nature, prepare to be impressed and inspired by stunning imagery and thought-provoking representations of the natural world and those who thrive in it.
