Spring adventures await at Springs Farm.

If you’re searching for the perfect family day out this spring, look no further than Springs Farm, a place where muddy boots, fresh air and unforgettable animal encounters are all part of the fun.
Run by the Hutton family since 1924, Springs Farm is a true slice of Cumbrian life, with six generations having worked the land. This is no staged attraction, it is a real, working beef and sheep farm that opens its gates to visitors, offering an authentic behind-the-scenes glimpse into rural life in the Lake District.

The highlight of any visit is the farm tour, a lively and hands-on experience that kids and adults will not forget in a hurry.
Climb aboard the accessible trailer for a farm safari with a difference, where you will meet an array of friendly animals, from shaggy Highland cows and fluffy Herdwick sheep to playful pygmy goats, curious KuneKune pigs and bouncing lambs. Along the way, the Hutton family share stories and insights passed down through generations, bringing the experience to life in a warm and engaging way.
“The highlight of any visit is the farm tour, a lively and hands-on experience that kids and adults will not forget in a hurry.”
There is plenty of interaction too. Visitors can hand feed the animals, get up close safely to the larger livestock, and even enjoy a cuddle with lambs at the end of the tour. It is not just fun, it is a fantastic way to learn where our food comes from and what goes into raising livestock.
As Hazel explains: “What we really want to do is educate people and allow children and adults alike to see a working farm up close. Farming is a hugely important part of Cumbria’s history and the shaping of the county, so I think it is really important for people to understand how it works and what goes into the industry.”

That educational focus has recently been strengthened with the completion of CEVAS training, meaning Springs Farm can now also host school visits, offering structured, hands on learning experiences for children.

Beyond the tours, Springs Farm continues to grow as a destination. They now host birthday parties, providing a unique and memorable setting where children can interact with animals before enjoying homemade treats in the tea rooms.

And speaking of treats, it would not be a proper day out without something delicious to round it off. Annie’s Pantry, the farm’s cosy, dog friendly café, serves hearty breakfasts and lunches alongside homemade cakes and baked goods prepared onsite. In the summer months, visitors can also enjoy locally made ice cream, adding an extra sweet touch to the experience.
On warmer days, the tea garden overlooking Brockle Beck is the perfect place to relax. Keep an eye out and you might spot a Highland cow wandering over for a drink or a red squirrel darting along the bank. There is also a gift shop stocked with local produce and treats.

Springs Farm is refreshingly down to earth, and dont forget it is a working farm and things can get a little messy, ditch the pretty pumps and get your wellies on.
Whether you are feeding animals, celebrating a birthday, enjoying a tractor ride or simply soaking up the countryside, Springs Farm delivers a day out that is equal parts fun, educational and truly memorable.
