Girlfriend & A Korma brings The Smiths to Cumbria
Girlfriend & A Korma bring The Smiths back to Cumbria for a special anniversary
Thursday 13 October 2016
Where were you on 13th October 1986? Nick Berry was number one with Every Loser Wins, the first edition of The Independent newspaper was 6 days old and Reagan and Gorbachev were meeting in Reykjavik… but in Carlisle, if you were one of the cool kids you were at the Sands Centre for the Smiths’ final tour… and their final Cumbrian gig.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of their legendary gig at Carlisle’s Sands Centre, we’re putting on a tribute to Morrissey, Marr, Rourke and Joyce with Cumbria’s very own Girlfriend & A Korma, recreating a night that those present have never forgotten, exactly 30 years to the very day it happened! In October 1986 The Smiths returned from their North American tour and began the second leg of their UK dates in Carlisle. It was to be their last tour and, despite occasional unfounded rumours of an M&M reconciliation, remains their final fling.
Now, experience it all over again with the North’s finest Smiths tribute band, Barrow’s Girlfriend & A Korma, who will be stopping off at Florence on their Queen Is Dead 30th Anniversary Tour. The band are promising a full run through of The Queen Is dead plus a special set of classics and curiosities. If you were there on 13 October 1986, don’t miss this and relive a night that has gone down in the history of Cumbrian gigs. We have no plans to recreate the Bigmouth Strikes Again stage invasion…. but that’s up to you!
Let’s party like it’s 1986!
