The Sekers Archive launches online.

Following the success of a landmark exhibition earlier this year, Handpicked Productions has unveiled the Sekers Archive — a new digital platform that preserves and celebrates the extraordinary story of Sekers Fabrics, one of West Cumbria’s most influential textile companies.

The archive offers a lasting online home for the rich tapestry of memories, objects, and community contributions that formed the heart of the Sekers Objects project.
The journey began in 2023 when Handpicked Productions launched Sekers Objects, a community-led heritage initiative funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Over the course of the project, they worked closely with local residents, former employees, and volunteers to uncover and record the social, cultural, and industrial legacy of Sekers Fabrics—a company that shaped not only the local economy but also the identity of the region.

“The archive offers a lasting online home for the rich tapestry of memories, objects, and community contributions that formed the heart of the Sekers Objects project.”
This collaborative effort culminated in an exhibition at Rosehill Theatre, Whitehaven, held throughout February 2025. For the first time, an exceptional collection of objects, garments, and artworks linked to Sekers’ history was brought together under one roof. Among the standout pieces were original factory items and lovingly handmade creations using Sekers fabric, such as wedding dresses, a Vicar’s cope, and a rare dress crafted from a Balmain pattern.
The exhibition also showcased some striking and seldom-seen treasures, including an Oliver Messel chandelier that once adorned Rosehill House—home of Sir Miki Sekers, the visionary founder of Sekers Fabrics—and a rare painting of the factory by renowned artist Percy Kelly, kindly loaned from a private collection.

To ensure the work lives on, Handpicked Productions has now launched www.sekersarchive.co.uk, an interactive and evolving website that allows visitors to explore the people, designs, and stories behind Sekers.
The digital archive also features a full walkthrough of the exhibition for those who missed the physical event and offers a space for future contributions, keeping the archive dynamic and community-driven.
“We couldn’t have done this without the local community, Rosehill staff and volunteers, and the support from Sekers Fabrics in Dundee,” said Anne Timpson, director at Handpicked Productions. “This website ensures that the story of Sekers continues to be shared and celebrated by future generations, while also serving as a foundation for future storytelling.”
The Sekers Archive is not just a website—it is a living legacy, a tribute to creativity, craftsmanship, and community spirit, woven together for all to discover.
