Step into Spring with the latest issue of Cumbria Guide Magazine!
A Word from the Editor
Spring is finally here! Already we are starting to see lambs in the fields, the first flowers are beginning to bloom and that icy chill is disappearing, and I don’t know about you, but after what has felt like a never ending winter, I’m looking forward to warmer days, lighter nights and, fingers crossed, a bit of sunshine.
This time of the year brings with it events galore. With Easter looming there’s lots to look forward to. There are plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy and get involved with.
In Carlisle, excavations at the cricket ground have just finished for the season. Undertaken by Uncovering Roman Carlisle, there have been many fantastic finds unearthed that give us more of a detailed insight into the Roman people who once lived here. Uncovering Roman Carlisle are now a registered charity and have even more exciting news, read on to discover more.
As always we have showcased some fantastic photographs taken by our readers who have sent in some stunning spring shots, showing Cumbria in all its colourful springtime glory. Our Featured Artist in this edition is Kate Bentley whose work is phenomenal, dream-like in many ways.
The food section is rife with restaurants, cafes and recipes to try at home. We delve into the Seacote Hotel and look at all they have to offer with their three dining options aswell as Franco’s in Carlisle who are recently under new management.
Words by the Water returns to Keswick this year which is fantastic for literary folk. Expect some big names heading to the event this year too! Speaking of literary folk, our book club section showcases some great reads, all written by local authors.
This April, we are aware that many local businesses are going to feel the effects of the upcoming financial changes, because of this their prices are going to change and it’s going to become ever more difficult to stay afloat and keep their doors open.
Here at the Cumbria Guide we do what we can to support our local high streets shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants and we ask that you do what you can, where you can. Whether its physically visiting the place and spending money with them, or even just sharing a post, every little helps and in the current climate a little can really mean a lot to those small enterprises who are desperately trying to remain open.
Please, this spring, Shop Local.
Happy Easter, see you in the summer!
Have fun, be good…
