Cumbria Guide: Issue 21 – May/June 2024
A Word from the Editor
We’re ditching our big coats, thermals and hot chocolates for floaty skirts, sandals and cocktails… well I hope anyways! Summer is moving in and in this edition of the Cumbria Guide there are oodles of events, stories and features on the upcoming season!
We’re looking forward to the first Show and Tell event in Carlisle this May, a celebration of creativity, community and the joys of having fun! Speaking of Carlisle and the community, the annual Give a Day to the City is on its way, a week where people throughout Carlisle are encouraged to devote their skills, time and generosity to a particular project or cause that improves the lives of people living and working in the city.
Whitehaven also has lots of exciting news in the coming months. With the return of the harbour sessions, the Hub getting a much awaited upgrade and even monthly harbourside car boot sales, it’s all happening. As well as the harbourside events the return of the traders markets in St Nicholas’ Gardens brings about a sense of excitement, as artisanal traders from across Cumbria come together in the gardens to offer a range of fantastic produce, creations and delicious treats!
Festival season is creeping in and in this edition we have included some of the best festivals in the county and there’s something for everyone. Whether you are looking for a big weekend of huge names such as Solfest, or looking for a super family and dog friendly event such as Wild on the Wall, we’ve got you covered.
We have some fantastic features in this edition, such as the ‘Love You, Bye’ walk, a walk in memory of a brilliant man, James who sadly lost his battle with mental health, all to raise money for a local charity which does amazing things.
Our regular features such as the artist in focus and our book club section have some great offerings. Gemma Keith creates beautiful images in a simple but stunning approach. The books in this edition sound amazing, otherworldly and fantastical, with one of the authors being only 14 years old, showing what fantastic talent we have here in this county.
As always the magazine is packed with adverts and editorials from businesses and organisations based in your towns. Make sure you support them this summer, even if you just visit their social media pages and give them a like and share, every little helps!
If you would like to keep up to date with any of the events, businesses or the latest happenings in and around your town head over to our social media page and join our community…
