Great events coming up for Oak Tree Animals’ Charity

WALK over fire and glass, scare yourself silly or indulge in a night around the casino table as a north Cumbrian animal charity prepares for a month of excitement.

Oak Tree Animals’ Charity, based at Wetheral Shields, has a fun-packed few weeks ahead of it, as the Charity prepares for one of the busiest times in its fundraising calendar. Mieke Tennant, Oak Tree’s Events Coordinator says “There’s something for everyone and we aim to make all our events affordable and enjoyable for participants, whilst raising much-needed funding to care for the animals.”

Kicking off with guided spooky tours through Blackburn Woods as Fright Night takes place on Friday, 1 November, with tours starting from 5pm. Booking is essential, with places priced at £7.50 for adults, £5 for under-18s and £2.50 for accompanying adults (under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult).

Halloween crafts and games are on offer on Saturday, 2 November for those wanting to join in the Halloween fun without being too scared!  No booking required, £5 per child.

Have you ever wondered what it feels like to walk on fire or glass? Now’s your chance! On Thursday, 14th November you can walk over Fire or Glass or BOTH!  Prior registration is required – prices are £20 for one walk, or £30 to do both, plus a minimum sponsorship of just £30.  Even if you don’t take part – head along and support those brave enough to do it. Minimum age is 12 (though slightly younger will be considered). For more information or to register, contact [email protected]. Lulu Parsons, Oak Tree’s Fundraising Officer says “This is a brand new challenge event for us and we really hope people will give it a go. We have a professional fire walking company running the event and nearly half the staff here are going to take part – it’s going to be a night to remember!”

Oak Tree’s annual Christmas Fair is a festive treat and well worth a visit. Taking place between 11.00am and 4.00pm, Father Oakley will be in his grotto and there will be plenty of festive stalls and cheer. Carol singers, Christmas Shopping, Grand Draw, Santa’s Grotto, Lucky Dips, and lots more including delicious food & drink will be on offer at this family, fun-filled event. Friday 29th November sees Oak Tree ending their 110th Anniversary year on a high with a fun Casino Night, supported by Maryport Lions. It’s also the night of their Golden Ticket PRIZE DRAW. Food & drink can be bought on the night from FacePlant, Ste’s Cheesecakes & Snacks, and Lakes Horsebox Bar. Tickets £10 (includes $1,000 Lions money to play with) – Book your ticket or table now!
