Cumbria Guide 20 March – April 2024

Spring has sprung… I love springtime in Cumbria, seeing the newborn lambs running around the fields and the green hue that fills the air as the tree’s begin to flourish once more. It’s a season of new beginnings, and everyone seems to be a little more smiley and cheerful.

This edition of the Cumbria Guide delves into all the upcoming events across our county this spring. From an array of Easter activities to keep the little ones entertained during the Easter break to speaking to Benjamin Francis Leftwich ahead of his gig in Kendal this April.

We bring a bit of wilderness to this edition with a feature dedicated to our wonderful Cumbrian Fell Ponies. We explore how they aided us in transforming the county and also talk about the challenges they are now facing. With stunning imagery from Ruth on the Hoof Photography, it’s an interesting and eye-opening read.

For anyone interested in local history, we have a great feature from Jonathan Fraser, known for his Facebook page Cumbrian and Borders History. He takes an in-depth look at how and why Carlisle Castle is the most besieged castle in the British Isles.

One thing we love to do is promote the creative flare of local people. From our photography page, this edition is dedicated to all the colours of Spring in Cumbria, to our Book Club section which gives a sneak peek into some of our local authors latest books – it’s clear we have a lot of talent up here.

As ever, the magazine is filled to the brim with some fantastic independent businesses, from pubs and restaurants to shops to traders. Everyone we work with put their heart and soul into their work and remember, these are the guys keeping our high street alive. We ask all our readers to support locals wherever they can this spring.

To stay up-to-date with all the up-coming events, local business goss, and to see that scouser bothering all the good local folk of Cumbria, head to our Facebook page and other social media platforms.

We are now working on our May/June and July/August editions. If you have an event coming up during the summer that you would like us to shout about, then contact myself via email or phone.

If you would like your business to be seen, we reach hundreds of thousands of people every month across all platforms, including our lovely little magazines, then get in touch… Have a wonderful spring! See you in the summer!
