Whether your children love getting dressed up, carving pumpkins or simply enjoy a little spooky fun, Cumbria is packed with family-friendly events throughout October and the half-term holidays.
Muncaster Castle’s Halloween Family Festival
Saturday 24 October – Sunday 1 November, 2026
Muncaster Castle’s Zombie and Boggles Halloween Festival returns with the Scary Maze, Halloween trails, parades, live entertainment and the Haunted Castle.
New for 2026 is the ‘Zombie-Boggle Apocalypse’, a family-friendly theatrical show, while the first 2,500 children’s tickets include a free pumpkin. Families can also enjoy bird of prey displays, walkabout acts, a costume competition and the Torchlight March.
Each evening at 7pm, ‘All Owls Eve’ will see owls fly through the castle grounds, accompanied by special lighting and commentary from the expert bird team.
Tickets start from £24.50 for adults and £16.95 for children. Under-threes go free.

Pumpkin Picking at Walby Farm Park
Saturday 3 – Saturday 31 October 2026
Families can head to Walby Farm Park to pick their own pumpkin from thousands growing across the farm, with 12 varieties to choose from. Every paying child receives a pumpkin.
There will also be pumpkin carving, spooky treats, s’mores, photo opportunities and, for an additional charge, pumpkin cannons and slingshots, alongside Walby’s usual attractions.
New for 2026 are Twilight Pumpkin Picking evenings on 27 and 28 October, with the patch open until 7pm.

Pumpkin Picking at Greystoke Castle
From Monday 19 October, 2026
Pumpkin picking is also returning to Greystoke Castle from Monday 19 October, with families invited to explore the castle grounds and choose their very own pumpkin.
The Halloween event runs every day from 11am–4pm, with tickets costing £10 per child, including their pumpkin and entry to the Little Knights & Princesses Play Area.
It is designed as a relaxed family day out, with plenty of space for children to enjoy themselves before tucking into freshly prepared pizza and burgers from the indoor BBQ.
With pumpkins, play and plenty of autumn atmosphere, Greystoke Castle offers a fun option for younger children who might prefer their Halloween without too many scares.
The Beacon School of Magic
Saturday 17 & Sunday 18 October, 2026
For budding witches and wizards, The Beacon Museum in Whitehaven is bringing back its popular Beacon School of Magic.
Aimed at children aged 3–10, the two-hour magical experience will feature spellbinding experiments, enchanting crafts and encounters with real-life magical creatures.
Fancy dress is strongly encouraged, with prizes available for the best-dressed young witches and wizards.
Children can test their magical skills, take part in activities and see whether they have what it takes to graduate from the Beacon School of Magic.
Tickets include entry for one child and one adult, with places limited, so advance booking is recommended. Museum admission is not included in the workshop ticket, meaning families wishing to explore the rest of The Beacon will need to purchase separate admission or show a valid annual pass.
