ARTEMIS ART & FASHION: Whitehaven’s most unique boutique!

Artemis Art and Fashion brings a magical combination together, in one premise and offers people the opportunity to express themselves both artistically and aesthetically.
Opened by Artemisa Pop in 2024 on Roper Street, the shop became known for its quirky and unique wares, however the location was not ideal for such a unique boutique so when the old Whats New premises became available Artemisa jumped at the opportunity.
Artemisa grew up in Romania and her passion for fashion developed at a young age, she said: “I’ve always been fascinated by fashion, I used to wake up early to watch my mother getting ready in the mornings, taking note of her clothes, make-up and jewellery. At the time Romania was still a communist country and people weren’t as free to express themselves as they wanted, so I decided to move to the UK where I could have the freedom to be who I was without hiding.”
When you step through the door you are met with a myriad of colour, texture and artistic works adorning the walls, shelves and floor.
Every corner of the shop offers a new treasure, be it a beautiful piece of artwork, unique dress, couture shoes or handmade jewellery.
Varying from vintage to contemporary and everything in between the clothing she stocks span every decade, genre and style so you’re sure to find something thats just perfect for you.
It really is an Aladdin’s cave for the creative. There are several pieces of Artemisa’s own work too. She is a multi-creative and delves into all aspects of creativity and art from painting to poetry, she said: “My original reason for opening a shop was because I had written a book and wanted to display my art but didn’t know how to go about that, so I decided i’ll just open my own gallery/boutique. My first was in Millom but my personal life meant I had to move and so I found myself here in Whitehaven and I love it. Everybody is so friendly and I get lots of compliments on the shop and the items we stock.”
