Sarah Reid returns to Shipping Brow Gallery with new solo exhibition celebrating the Cumbrian coast.

Local artist Sarah Reid is set to return to Shipping Brow Gallery in Maryport this autumn with a new solo exhibition celebrating the beauty and character of the Cumbrian coastline.
Running from 23 September to 25 October, the exhibition will be open Wednesday to Sunday, 11am to 4pm, and will showcase a collection of Sarah’s vibrant pastel paintings inspired by the ever changing landscapes of Cumbria’s coast.
The exhibition marks Sarah’s third solo show at Shipping Brow Gallery and holds particular significance. Three years ago, she was the first artist to exhibit at the gallery when it officially opened under the stewardship of Dolly and Brian Money. This latest exhibition will be the final one held under their management before the gallery enters its next chapter.
Known for her expressive use of pastel, Sarah captures the coastline in all its moods, from dramatic skies and stormy seas to bright, sunlit shores. Much of her work begins outdoors, where she paints en plein air, before being developed further in her studio at the EVAN Gallery and Studios in Penrith.
Reflecting on the exhibition, Sarah said: “The Cumbrian coast is an endless source of inspiration. I love capturing its changing light, colours and atmosphere, whether it’s rain or shine, and translating those moments into pastel paintings that evoke a real sense of place.”
In addition to her exhibition at Shipping Brow Gallery, Sarah will also be opening her studio to visitors as part of the EVAN Open Studios Art Trail, taking place from 6 to 21 September 2026, offering art lovers another opportunity to meet the artist and see where her work is created.
