Whitehaven Town Council Events ’23

Whitehaven Town Council Events ’23 – This year in Whitehaven, the town council team has gone into overdrive to bring as many free events as possible.

The return of the Leyland National Vintage Fair is the first of many events, this went down an absolute storm last year and saw thousands of visitors taking a walk and ride back in time.

The event will see dozens of vintage buses, cars, and other vehicles descend onto the Harbourside over two days on the 29th and 30th of April.

This year, however, the event will also be held in the heart of the town centre, on Lowther Street and the harborside.

Over the two days, there will be a fun fair, lots of stalls,. Free Bus Tours – Free Park & Ride – a grand parade and a real ale bus and vintage bus trips around Whitehaven.

For those wanting to travel further afield, why not hop on board and ride to St. Bees in one of the many vintage buses? No doubt this will conjure up lots of memories for many folks.

Just one day after the Leyland National Vintage Bus Fair ends, we will see the King’s Coronation Celebrations get underway. Well, you know what they say: you wait for one event, then two come along at once.

The Coronation Event will run from May 1–8 at St. Nic’s Church, the tower at St Nic’s will be lit up and there will be a photographic exhibition showcasing our royal connections with lots of photographs of royals enjoying Whitehaven and the surrounding area. An exhibition fit for a king, we think. As part of the celebrations and to add a little spice, the continental market will be returning to the harbourside.

The above is the entree, which will be followed throughout the year with monthly markets, science shows, photography exhibitions, summer fairs, continental markets, street theatre, and a tall ship coming in. Well, I did say they’ve been busy!

Gerard Richardson, who works alongside the town council, said, “This will be the busiest year to date since we started the events four years ago.

Our Cumbrian Traders Markets have been a huge success, so much so that the concept has been emulated across the town and county.

We look forward to the return of the Cumbrian Traders Market on May 26th.”
