What’s On at The Beacon in July/August?

This summer, The Beacon have so many fantastic events, workshops and exhibitions to get involved in!

Current exhibitions:

The World of Peter Rabbit™ Storytime Trail
6 July – 1 September
Hop into this walkthrough experience, where visitors will be able to immerse themselves in The Tale of Peter Rabbit.


Seaside
20 July – 13 October
Grab your bucket and spade and celebrate all things seaside brought to you by the Beacon Team!


Workshops and events:

Invasion! Guided Walking Tour of Whitehaven
4 July; 11am

Join us at the Beacon Museum on 4th July for a guided tour to discover when the fledgling US Navy launched an attack on Whitehaven in the cause of independence.Included with museum entry, but booking is essential.


Fusing Taster Workshop with RD Glass
10am-12pm 7 July 2024
Join us at The Beacon Portal for an introductory taster session of working with glass. Learn a new skill and have fun being creative with hands-on instruction and guidance.

All materials and use of equipment are included in the price.

£35 per person.


Quiet Hour
7 July; 11am-12pm
4 August; 10am-11am
This will provide a calmer environment with fewer people, which will be useful for anyone who needs it.


Finds and Portable Antiquities session
23 July
If you have found something in the garden on the beach
or out walking why not come along and find out more from Alex Whitlock, Finds Liaison Officer for North West England.

No financial valuations can be made.


Pet Encounters
25 July | 2 August | 4 August | 8 August | 15 August | 22 August | 29 August; 11am, 1pm, 3pm

We welcome the incredible Pet Encounters team who will teach you about their beautiful animals, their habitat, where they originate from, and how to care and look after them. You’ll also get a chance to hold and interact with many of the animals.

Allergy warning: Please note this event may include animals with fur including rabbits, hares, meerkats, and gerbils.

£7.50 per child, £4.50 per adult.
Museum admission not included.


Flip Entertainment Magic Show
29 July | 6 August | 30 August; 11am, 1pm, 3pm
We’re delighted to welcome Flip Entertainments back to The Beacon Museum. Together with colourful props and his fresh and modern approach, he ensures that children of all ages will be kept entertained and amused throughout.

£7.50 per child, £4.50 per adult.
Museum admission not included.


Alpaca Walking on Whitehaven Harbour
11 August; 10.00, 10.45, 11.30, 12.15, 13.00
Alpacas are not a sight not often seen by the sea but now you can join these soft and gentle creatures as they take a walk around Whitehaven harbour.

Suitable for children over the age of 6. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

£10 per walk, maximum of two people.
Museum admission not included


Double Trouble Circus Workshop
19 August; 11am, 1pm, 3pm
Let the circus magic begin! Hosted by professional clowns, Double Trouble (two clowns, twice the fun), kids will get the chance to try out a range of circus skills such as plate spinning, tight-rope walking and pedal racers!

£7.50 per child, £4.50 per adult.
Museum admission not included.


Bubble Magic Workshop
19 August; 11am, 1pm, 3pm
A fun (and potentially messy!) workshop where children will get to stand inside a giant bubble and learn the tips and tricks to create their own balloon models!
