A Summer of Events
in Workington
Party in the Park – 4th and 5th July, 2026
A Weekend of Music, Creativity and Community!
Workington is set to come alive this summer as Party in the Park 2026 returns to Vulcan Park with an expanded programme of live music, creative activity and community celebration, running from 11am – 5pm each day.
This year’s event invites everyone to take part in a fancy dress spectacular, transforming the park into a vibrant, playful space filled with colour, imagination and local pride. Visitors can expect a packed programme featuring a local band line-up, a wide range of high-quality stalls, and a lively community stage hosting competitions throughout the day.
Across the site, audiences will be able to explore themed areas including a Renaissance Fair tent, offering immersive, historical-inspired experiences, and a dedicated Northern Soul party space, celebrating the region’s rich musical heritage with DJ sets, dancing and workshops.
Families and visitors of all ages can enjoy a welcoming, free event atmosphere, with something to discover around every corner – from food and drink stalls to creative activities and community showcases.
Behind the scenes, the event is being shaped by a Creative Steering Group made up of 10 local Workington people. Meeting monthly, the group shares ideas and helps guide decisions around creative activities, stalls and programming, ensuring the event is what the local community wants to see.
Outdoor Theatre: Romeo and Juliet – 3rd and 4th July, 2026
As part of the weekend celebrations, there will be a free open-air performance of Romeo and Juliet by Oddsocks Productions, taking place in Vulcan Park on Friday 3rd July and Saturday 4th July in the evening at 7pm.
Oddsocks return with their new take on this well-loved classic, finding laughs and pathos in the most dramatic of tragedies.
Will Romeo pull himself together to escape with Juliet?
Will the Nurse think of a better plan than the Friar?
Will the audience help the lovers elope?
All will be revealed as Oddsocks create uplifting comedy from the depths of despair in a show that’s the perfect antidote to prejudice.
Audiences are invited to bring a picnic blanket, relax, and enjoy this lively, accessible take on Shakespeare under the evening sky.
