TIS THE SEASON TO GET SEWING

Whether its machines, spools or just some friendly advice the Superior Sewing Centre is the place to go.

by Danni Murphy

Winter has arrived in full force, and as we retreat to the comforts of home, it’s important to find engaging activities to avoid twiddling our thumbs. Enter sewing—your perfect indoor companion for passing the time while staying cosy and warm.

Whether you’re crafting scarves to bundle up, creating handmade holiday gifts, or designing cosy winter outfits, sewing not only keeps you productive but also offers a creative outlet during these chilly months. It’s the perfect time to embrace this timeless skill, stitch something special, and stay snug while doing so.

Thankfully, here in Cumbria, we have the Superior Sewing Centre based in Carlisle—one of the largest specialists in the North of England, serving the sewing community since 1993. As a multi-brand dealership, they showcase all the top names, including Singer, Brother, Babylock, Bernina, and more.

Their experienced engineers offer repair and maintenance services, ensuring that your sewing machine is in expert hands no matter what the issue. Staying up-to-date with the latest technologies, they can handle any make or model.

In addition to their vast range of products—including Prym and Fiskars haberdashery, Rowan, King Cole, and Adriafil yarns, and fabrics from Timeless Treasures to Lewis and Irene—the Superior Sewing Centre also stocks essential quilting supplies, such as Vilene interfacing, Warm and Natural wadding, and more.

Beyond just supplies, they also offer a variety of services, from repairs and maintenance to sewing classes. These classes are a fantastic opportunity for sewing enthusiasts to come together, learn new skills, socialise, and enhance their sewing techniques. With multiple classes held throughout the year, it’s a great way to stay engaged and connected with fellow hobbyists.

They relocated in 2023 and are now based at Phoenix House at English Damside and encourage everybody to pop in and see what they have to offer. Their friendly, experienced staff are always on hand to answer any questions and help where possible.
