A coastal Cumbrian village is preparing to celebrate St Patrick’s Day with a unique local twist this weekend, as Ravenglass hosts the lively St Patrick’s Birthplace Festival on Saturday 21 March 2026.
Supported by Muncaster, the festival brings together history, community and a touch of Irish spirit in a celebration that is as intriguing as it is entertaining. While St Patrick is widely known as the patron saint of Ireland, some historians believe he may actually have been born in Cumbria, with Ravenglass often named as a possible birthplace. Set against the backdrop of sea air and historic streets, the free event will take place across multiple venues throughout the village. Visitors can explore a variety of locations including The Pennington Hotel, The Inn at Ravenglass, Muncaster Parish Hall and The Ratty Arms, each offering its own contribution to the festivities.

The St Patrick’s Birthplace Festival has been organised by Muncaster Parish Council, with sponsorship from Hyperfast GB and Fibrus, and support from local partners including Muncaster, The Pennington Hotel, The Inn at Ravenglass, Muncaster Parish Hall and The Ratty Arms.
With its mix of local heritage, live entertainment and community spirit, the festival offers a fresh take on St Patrick’s Day celebrations. It is a chance to experience something a little different, where Irish tradition meets Cumbrian history in a truly memorable setting.
