Save Hill Top Trails: Cumbrian BMX Community’s Heart and Soul at Risk!

Cumbrian BMX enthusiasts and community members unite to protect Hill Top Trails, the region’s longest-serving BMX track, which has been at the forefront of BMX culture in Cumbria for the past two decades.

This beloved site has not only nurtured some of Cumbria’s finest BMX talent, it has also fostered a welcoming family environment for riders of all ages to express themselves and develop their skills.

Hill Top Trails, built with love and dedication using organic materials, has transformed a previously neglected and fly-tipped area into a vibrant ecosystem. The local BMX community, in collaboration with the landowners, has taken stewardship of the land, maintaining it by clearing debris, gritting winter roads, and managing full woodland care. For 20 years, this area has remained complaint-free, serving as a safe and creative outlet for BMX riders.

However, in a recent turn of events, the National Park committee is set to discuss the future of Hill Top Trails. Despite the landowner’s ongoing support, the committee is considering potential restrictions due to its proximity to the National Park. The potential removal of the trails could devastate the local BMX scene, leaving riders with no place to practice and plunging the community into uncertainty.

“We cannot allow the committee to make a decision that threatens the very essence of our community,” said Nick Fulton for the Hill Top Trails BMX community. “The trails are not just dirt jumps; they are a symbol of our passion, dedication, and the hard work of countless individuals who have poured their hearts into maintaining this space.”

Nick also said, “My 5 year old son learned to ride here and he is now on track to join British Cycling BMX Juniors, having been scouted recently. It’s about the kids, teenagers and adults. We have a really mixed group from 5 years old to 50 years old and beyond, including boys and girls’’

To protect the future of Hill Top Trails, the community has launched a petition urging supporters to join this crucial fight. “We need the voices of our supporters to sign the petition to Show that Hill Top Trails is vital to future generations of the Cumbrian BMX community.”

Together, we can save Hill Top Trails and ensure that this cherished part of our community continues to thrive for years to come!
