The much-loved free festival, which had faced uncertainty earlier this year, has been secured thanks to support from Penrith Business Improvement District (BID) and local partners including Leo Group and theidol.com.
What began as a small volunteer parade has become a signature event in the region, drawing more than 25,000 visitors in 2024, with around 10,000 lining the parade route at its peak. This year promises another full day of creativity and celebration, featuring a magical torchlight and lantern procession, live music, street theatre, art installations, family attractions, food and craft stalls, the quirky Drovers Cup and the ever-popular dog fancy-dress contest.

“This festival showcases talent from across the region, attracts visitors, and fills the town with pride.”
Eden Arts Director Adrian Lochhead said: “Thanks to the BID, Leo Group, theidol.com and the many companies who have sponsored lanterns, we’re thrilled to confirm the Droving will take place. This festival showcases talent from across the region, attracts visitors, and fills the town with pride.”

While 2025 is secured, organisers warn that the event’s growth has outpaced available funding. They are inviting the community to help sustain it by buying Droving lottery tickets, donating or signing up as Friends of Eden Arts, volunteering, or supporting through sponsorship.
“The Winter Droving celebrates the character and creativity of Penrith while bringing real benefits to local businesses.”
Penrith BID chairman Darren Broad added: “The Winter Droving celebrates the character and creativity of Penrith while bringing real benefits to local businesses. It’s a shining example of culture and community coming together.”
Organisers are also calling for bands, traders and parade participants to join the 2025 programme.
