Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw are inviting the community to support their vital work through a series of meaningful events that offer opportunities to remember loved ones, celebrate life and take on an unforgettable fundraising challenge.

Light Up A Life Returns for 2026

The charity’s much-loved Light Up A Life campaign will once again bring people together during the festive season to celebrate and remember those who are no longer with us, while helping raise essential funds for compassionate hospice care across North Cumbria.

Supporters are invited to make a donation and dedicate a personal message on a commemorative bauble in memory of someone special. Every dedication helps ensure local adults, children and families continue to receive expert care and support when they need it most.

As part of the campaign, two free community events will offer moments of reflection and remembrance.

The Hospice Light Switch On takes place on Sunday 29 November at Eden Valley Hospice. Guests can gather to watch the hospice Christmas lights being illuminated, enjoy music and moments of reflection, dedicate messages in memory of loved ones and come together with others in a warm and supportive atmosphere.

The annual Light Up A Life Cathedral Service follows on Friday 11 December at Carlisle Cathedral. Featuring carols, readings and time for quiet reflection, the service is open to everyone, providing a peaceful opportunity to honour loved ones while supporting the hospice through dedications and donations.

Trek to Everest Base Camp

For those looking for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw are also inviting supporters to take on the iconic Everest Base Camp Trek.

Partnering with Lakeland Mountain Guides (LMG Expeditions), participants will embark on an unforgettable journey through the breathtaking Himalayas. Beginning with the famous flight into Lukla, the trek passes through traditional Sherpa villages, spectacular mountain scenery and the heart of the Khumbu Valley before reaching Everest Base Camp at more than 5,300m above sea level.

The carefully planned itinerary includes essential acclimatisation days, experienced guides throughout the expedition and time to explore the vibrant city of Kathmandu, making this an incredible adventure for anyone looking to challenge themselves while making a real difference.

An information evening will be held for anyone interested in learning more about the trek.

Participants pay a £500 deposit to secure their place and commit to raising £3,495 in sponsorship. Of this total, the first £2,395 covers the cost of the expedition, with the remaining fundraising directly supporting Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw’s vital services for local families.

Fundraisers will receive dedicated fundraising support, sponsor materials, an Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw T-shirt, expert guidance from Lakeland Mountain Guides throughout the trek, social media promotion and, most importantly, the knowledge that every pound raised helps provide compassionate care and support for local people living with life-limiting illnesses.
