OFF THE PIER: GIG AT THE CIVIC
Off The Pier Events to get off to a flying start with their inaugural charity night at The Solway Hall

On Friday, March 21st, ‘Off the Pier’ will host their first event, and all for a cracking cause.
The night in question will see a handful of West Cumbrian bands take to the stage for a gig that is personal for all the bands playing.
The event will raise money in loving memory of Zoe Tighe and Dawn Lawson, the mums of local bass players Ben Tucker and Ethan Lawson. The chosen charities are the UK Sepsis Trust and the Great North Air Ambulance.
Ethan is the bass player with The Northern Threads, and Ben plays with another Whitehaven band – Springfield.
The music scene is tight in Whitehaven; it always has been, and there is always an appetite for bands and gigs. Despite their young age, these lads have been around for years, and both bands have a cracking reputation, not only for their tunes but also as class humans. Again, something that represents itself time and time again. It’s great to see bands still strutting their stuff despite the hardship of getting airplay on the radio these days.
Live bands are becoming something of a rarity in the charts, yet they are out there, so get along to any gig and show some love.
As for this particular gig, here’s your perfect opportunity to catch class live bands, which will include Jolan. This kid needs no introduction; he’s an absolutely brilliant chanter and muso – The Northern Threads; Man, these are one of my favourite bands, great lads, and ridiculously talented.
Springfield, again another hardworking band that is putting itself out there at every opportunity and throwing out class tunes.
Kicking the night off is Solomon, led by the Songbook, also known as Lee Adams. Many would no doubt have seen Lee over the years, as he does get about everywhere, literally.
Josh Shepherd, who is behind Off the Pier alongside Jake McNicholas, said, “We couldn’t think of a better way to have our first announced event than to be for these two very special people who unfortunately were taken from us way too soon.’’
Josh has been working on events since he was a kid, working alongside Danny Maudling from The Mighty Boof days. He has been an integral cog and worked his way up the ladder, going on to book some of the biggest names in the business and we can’t wait to see what else he has lined up in the future.
But first things first – get yourselves along to the Solway Hall on March 21st and raise a drink in memory of Zoe and Dawn – raise a few quid for a few well-deserving charities and raise the spirits of all the lads from all the bands on the night, as they are all hurting for each other – that’s just how it is here in Whitehaven band land.
