Luke Johnson & Emma Dockeray come to Egremont
Florence Arts Centre tops off a great year of live music with BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards nominee, Luke Jackson with support from talented local singer-songwriter Emma Dockeray.

It has been a bumper year for live music at Florence Arts Centre in Egremont, with appearances from celebrated local acts alongside established and award-winning touring bands. Their final gig of 2016 is a match of the two with Luke Jackson (who has long been on Florence’s wishlist) and special guest support slot from Whitehaven’s Emma Dockeray.
Luke is a singer-songwriter from Canterbury, Kent, who in 2013 was nominated in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for both the Horizon Award for Best Emerging Talent and The Young Folk Category. With a bold, distinctive voice and a sweet, percussive guitar style, Luke is a confident and captivating live performer. His debut album ‘More Than Boys’ was produced by the acclaimed Welsh singer-songwriter Martyn Joseph, and was released in 2012 to great reviews, as was the follow up ‘Fumes and Faith’ in early 2014.
In 2015 he released a 7 track EP with his trio, ‘This Family Tree’, which was described in a 5 star Maverick review as ”Two words. Bloody brilliant” and it further reflects his development as both a writer and performer. This year saw the release of Luke’s third long-player, a powerful and impressive collection of songs giving full range to Luke’s beautiful voice and confident musicianship.
With comparisons to the likes of Richard Thompson and Jeff Buckley not out of place, Luke has played across the world, recently a spate in gigs in Europe and is no stranger to Cumbria, having played at Carlisle Folk and Blues Club and the Ireby festival over the past few years. This is your chance to see him in the intimate setting of Florence Arts Centre, his rich blend of contemporary songwriting and heartfelt lyrics is going to be a night not to miss.

Florence’s support for local musicians continues with a support slot for the superb Whitehaven singer-songwriter Emma Dockeray; Emma’s exquisite voice and superb skills as a songwriter make her the perfect accompaniment for this night of live music. This year Emma released her eponymous five-track EP featuring her perfectly pitched country and folk-driven pop sings and her gorgeous vocals.
