If you’re looking for unforgettable days out this summer, Muncaster Castle has a packed programme of events offering something for everyone.
From live music and country festivals to obstacle races and creative workshops, there’s plenty happening against one of Cumbria’s most spectacular backdrops.
Open Mic Nights
Music lovers can kick off the summer with Muncaster’s popular Open Mic Nights. Taking place on 3 July, 7 August, 4 September and 2 October, these relaxed evenings celebrate local talent in a welcoming atmosphere.
Whether you’re a seasoned performer, a first-timer, or simply enjoy discovering new music, everyone is welcome. Entry is free from 6.30pm, with food and drinks available from The Stables Café and Muncaster Bar. It’s the perfect opportunity to support local musicians while enjoying a great evening out.
Country by the Castle
17 & 18 July
Country music fans won’t want to miss Country by the Castle, returning for a weekend of toe-tapping entertainment in the stunning surroundings of the western Lake District.
The festival brings together some of the UK’s hottest country music acts, while tickets also include access to the castle gardens, the Hawk & Owl Centre, bird of prey flying displays and have-a-go sessions in the Weapons Hall. Race the Tide
7 – 9 August
Looking for something a little more adventurous? Race the Tide is one of Cumbria’s most unique events.
This 10km obstacle race takes participants through mud, rivers, woodland and natural obstacles, creating a challenge that’s as much about fun as fitness. Fancy dress is encouraged, dogs are welcome, and runners of all abilities can take part.
What began as a friendly local gathering has grown into a much-loved annual event while still retaining its welcoming community feel.
Lost in Stone
1 & 2 August
For those who enjoy learning a new skill, Lost in Stone offers a fascinating introduction to the art of stone carving.
Led by experienced West Cumbrian sculptor Tony Crellin, this two-day course allows participants to create their own carving while learning traditional techniques in the inspiring surroundings of Muncaster Castle.
Suitable for beginners and experienced creatives alike, the course includes all tools, materials and expert tuition.
