Keswick Theatre Gets Ready to Welcome a Royal Visitor

The Theatre by the Lake has partnered with the Lake District National Park in welcoming HRH The Prince of Wales to Keswick this month.

Theatre by the Lake is thrilled to be working alongside the Lake District National Park Partnership in producing a special community event on 26 March to celebrate the Lake District’s recently awarded World Heritage Site status. His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales, has been confirmed as the guest of honour and will be unveiling the official UNESCO plaque at the event at Crow Park.

TBTL will be providing cultural entertainment as part of the celebrations, including a performance by Olivier Award-nominated actress Elizabeth Mansfield from upcoming spring show ‘Hymn to Love – Homage to Piaf’, a piece from hit Christmas show ‘The Secret Garden’ performed by Theatre by the Lake’s Young Company, and an excerpt from Melvyn Bragg and Howard Goodall’s world renowned Cumbrian musical ‘The Hired Man’ performed by St Herbert’s Primary School.

Members of the community are invited to attend the event and join with TBTL and the Lake District National Park Partnership in marking this special day for the Lake District.

Conrad Lynch, Artistic Director of Theatre by the Lake, said: “We are so delighted to be working alongside our friends at the Lake District National Park and the National Trust in celebrating this really exciting moment for the Lake District – as well as being thrilled that the official UNESCO plaque will essentially be our new neighbour in Crow Park.

“We’re really looking forward to welcoming the public to the park to witness this historic event as His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales, unveils the plaque. We also look forward to sharing some of the theatre’s work, which highlights the richness of the culture in Cumbria, and to an uplifting celebration of what makes the Lake District so deserving of this World Heritage status.”

The event takes place on Monday 26 March with members of the public encouraged to arrive at the Lake Road entrance of Crow Park by 10am.
