Photographer Focus: Harry Baker is flying high!

HARRY BAKER IS FLYING HIGH

Harry Baker takes photography to another level. Whether he’s shooting from the sky or on the ground, the images and footage he captures are awe-inspiring.

Normally, you will see us showcasing amazing shots of the landscape and townscapes here in our Photographer in Focus feature; however, here is something a little different and something you can engage with via the QR codes in mag, or URL links direct to the videos online.

Harry Baker has been on our radar for many years, a great photographer in his own right; however, over the last year he has been working on two new projects, including developing his skills as an FPV drone pilot, FPV First Person View is a method used to control a radio-controlled drone from the pilot’s viewpoint, and the other project is his bike journeys through the lakes, which we’ll get into.

FPV: See Cumbria Like Never Before
Typical drone footage includes laidback, serene footage of the Cumbrian landscape with ambient music in the background. It is always great to watch; however, what Harry is doing is cinematic, dramatic, and action-packed. Strap yourself in and see and hear for yourself as he takes you on a roller coaster of a journey through our landscape and along our lanes.

Harry said,

“I really enjoy using the FPV. It is difficult, and you have to put the hours in. It’s more challenging than flying a normal drone that you can pick up and it just stays there. If I let go, the drone falls.”

“Currently, I’m using a DJI Avata 2; so far, I’ve put in over 70 hours into the simulator and get out as often as I can.”

I’ve been following his socials for years, and his latest projects almost weekly. You will see not only something special and spectacular, but the progress Harry makes week after week is visible as he hones his skills.

Bike the Lakes with Baker…
As for Harry’s motorcycle journeys, these are opposite to the drama of his FPV work; here you fall into the serenity of the journey as Harry chugs along Cumbria’s country lanes with a mounted camera as he rides an old Honda NTV 650. The bike sounds amazing, and the journeys are hypnotic and soothing, so much so that his videos are attracting big numbers.

His social pages in the last thirty days have seen Harry attract over 34 million views on his bike journeys. The lad is a viral sensation with over a hundred thousand followers and rising daily.

Harry says,

‘It’s passive; I hit record, and it’s just me riding my bike, doing what I love in a place I love, and I get to share that with millions of people, which is really nice.’

‘Since launching and sharing my motorcycle journeys, the feedback and support from the biking community
have been nothing short of amazing.’

So there you have it—flick, click, and take to the skies or enjoy a ride out into the country with Harry Baker and let us know what you think.
