A Very Satisfactory Manner
by John Little
After a day at the hare-coursing in Longtown, three London Villains burgled Netherby Hall and stole the jewellery of Lady Hermione Graham. The vastly understaffed Cumbrian and Westmorland police force was told about this very quickly by telegram, and attempted to stop the robbers as they made their escape. The result was a trail of blood, violence, and ultimately murder across half the county. It culminated in a dramatic
set of actions at Tebay, and a trial at Carlisle
that engaged the attention of the world.
