Carlisle will have Christmas wrapped up
Carlisle will have Christmas wrapped up with a city centre open-air market between 2nd and 11th December so you won’t have to travel out of county to get the full Christmas Markets experience!
Every year thousands of folk travel the length and breadth of the UK to experience and witness the magic of these amazing Christmas Markets, whether that be in York – Liverpool – London or Edinburgh.
Well guess what? You don’t need to leave the county this year as Christmas in Carlisle is going to be massive and absolutely delightful.
Winter Wonderland is coming to Carlisle and the setup looks set to be amazing as Carlisle hosts its first Alpine-style Christmas Market over ten days.
Forget any of the markets you’ve experienced in the past, Carlisle’s Christmas Village will feature over 40 Alpine style chalets selling a huge range of festive gifts, crafts and of course food and drink.
With a fantastic mix of local and visiting traders it will be unlike any Carlisle has seen before. Expect the air to be lingering with all the smells of Christmas including; spices, chocolate, cheese and mulled wine.
As well as festive treats there will also be plenty of continental favourites on offer such as giant bratwurst from the iconic German Schwenkegrill, an exotic selection of ostrich, wild boar and crocodile burgers, Italian macaroons, traditional hot Glühwein and the very best in cheeses and chutneys.
As this Christmas extravaganza will take place over ten days, that’s ten days to tickle your taste buds and indulge again and again.
Our advice is book accommodation as soon as possible and enjoy all that Carlisle City has to offer. Not only will the Christmas Market be a great experience, this is your chance to explore the many brilliant independent shops – bars and restaurants that Carlisle and the surrounding area has to offer.
Great attractions – indoor market – amazing castle – beautiful cathedral and of course the museums. There is so much to see and do and at this time of yea, making it a perfect time to visit. >>>
Carlisle Destination Manager, Paul Walker who is responsible for pulling this together along with his team said: “This is such a fitting way to end such a fantastic year for Carlisle.
We have had such a positive year with so many fantastic events that to end it on such a high will be really special. The amount of requests we have had at the TIC about the event means we are expecting a record Christmas, not only in footfall in the centre but city wide and we expect our local business community to have a Christmas to remember.
Our advice is to book your accommodation sooner rather than later and come and Discover what Carlisle is all about and why it is such a fantastic place to visit. This is the perfect opportunity to enjoy the many bars, restaurants and explore the many shops and retailers across the whole city.”
One thing is certain, the whole event will leave you feeling utterly festive. It is the perfect opportunity to get through to Carlisle and get some of that last minute Christmas shopping done. Don’t forget the city itself is fantastic for its unique independent shops so lets not forget to show them some support this Christmas.
Cllr Stephen Higgs, Portfolio holder for Culture, Leisure and Sport, said: “Successful Christmas Markets attract visitors from across the UK and have become a significant contributor to the local economy of the towns and cities that host them. We are confident the Carlisle Christmas Market will quickly establish itself as a leading festive attraction in the city and will add to our wonderful seasonal calendar of events.”
