A Labour of Love – New Album for Charity – ‘If This is Love’

West Cumbrian singer Peter Rothery has recently launched an album, ‘If This is Love’, with all proceeds heading to Hospice at Home West Cumbria.

Peter said: “Last December, I embarked on a heartfelt journey to record a full album on CD to raise money for cancer research. With the assistance of my friend and recording engineer, we initiated the project at his home studio in Cleator Moor. Sadly, shortly after we began, he fell seriously ill, leading me to believe that the project would be shelved indefinitely.

“In March of this year, I faced a profound loss when my ex-wife passed away from cancer. It was during this difficult period that my daughter encouraged me to resurrect the recording project. Inspired by her suggestion, I decided to redirect the album’s purpose and donate all proceeds to Hospice at Home West Cumbria, who provided exceptional end-of-life care to her mother.

“Through my research, I learned that Hospice at Home West Cumbria is the only provider of high-quality palliative care in our community and relies heavily on public funding to sustain their vital services. Recognising the importance of their mission, I knew I had to complete the album.

“In late May, I connected with Tom Tyson, a talented producer with a studio just outside of Egremont. Together, we finished recording the album throughout May and June, and I am thrilled with the results. Engaging with Hospice at Home about my intentions, they were incredibly supportive and excited about the potential to raise funds through the sale of the CDs, priced at just £7.00 each.

“The album features ten cover tracks that showcase a variety of styles, from power ballads to country tunes. We were even fortunate to collaborate with local artist Steve Falcon, who lent his remarkable talents to one of the tracks.

“You can find the album available for purchase at Morrisons Daily on Church Road, Harrington, Workington; Shop 55 in Cleator Moor; and through my own contact at [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]). We are also working on making it available in other local outlets.

“I am immensely proud of this album and grateful to everyone who has supported this endeavour, from Peter Richardson, who started this journey with me, to Tom Tyson, who expertly mixed, mastered, and produced the final product.

“A huge thank you also goes to Hospice at Home for their unwavering support. This project has truly been a labour of love—thank you to everyone involved.”
