One man’s mission to bring on the next crop of Cumbrian musicians and celebrate the joy of music

Wild on the Wall takes place this weekend from July 26th to 28th, this wonderful little event is so much more than a simple music festival, the team behind it put their heart and souls into the festival, which has one purpose and one aim which is to bring joy, love, and laughter to anybody and everybody!

Wild on the Wall was born from one man’s desire to give back to a county he has grown to love so much.

Dan hasn’t received funding of any sorts over the last five years, he has delved into his own pockets to shine a light on the next generation of musicians.

A musician himself, Dan knows what it means to the local youngsters to step up and be given an opportunity to perform at the next level, and this is exactly what Wild on The Wall is all about, it’s about the kids, bringing them on and inspiring them.

Dan is well known in Carlisle for his live music venue the Source Collective, which is where the idea for Wild on the Wall was conceived, Dan said: “Whilst being involved with the Source we have had the pleasure of coming together with some fantastic local creatives and musicians. Wild on the Wall really is a divine celebration of the talent and musical diversity we have here in this beautiful county as well as a celebration of life and joy.”

Before Wild on the Wall was initiated, it began as a few musicians utilizing the land that Dan obtained to jam and play together. Dan decided he wanted to open it up to the public and in his words “Make it a proper party for everybody.”

Dan said:

“This is my way of giving back to the people of Cumbria. I have been lucky enough to have made my home here and love it. I wanted to create an event where people could come together, heal, and be happy. Music is a wonderful medicine. We only have one life, come together and celebrate the beauty of it with us!”

This year expect some cracking sets from bands from afar and of course lots of local talent who will be bringing down the house with gusto and passion. With acts such as Colt-45, The Shambolics, Funke and the Two Tone Baby, and lots more, it’s set to be a weekend of fantastic music!

As well as all the musical delights there will also be a huge variety of stalls, workshops and more. This year, the Emporium from Carlisle will be attending and will bring a range of workshops for both adults and children, including messy play activities!

An exciting new addition to this year’s event is ProWild Survival. ProWild Survival is a collection of outdoor enthusiasts who have put together their skills and qualifications to create fun and safe survival experiences for everyone, no matter their age or capability. This year they will join us at Wild on the Wall and will be offering a woodland respite space where festival goers can come down, relax by the fire, or join in with some of the workshops they will be holding where they will teach a range of outdoor skills.

Emma from the Enchanted Tea Cup returns this year bringing some zen to the festival, she said: “My name is Emma and I have the pleasure of spending my 4th year at Wild on the Wall Family Festival. She rents a small unit from the lovely Dan Russell at Atlas Works Building. Here you will find Reiki, Meditation, Workshops, Tarot & Tea Leaf Readings, Sound Baths & Cake.”

You can rest assured that you won’t go thirsty with a fully stocked bar with some fantastic beers, spirits, wines, and various soft drinks.

There’s plenty to keep you fueled up throughout the weekend, with various food vendors. Tipsy Tapas will be on hand, offering up the likes of Patatas Bravas, Spicy Meatballs, Chicken Wings, Spicy Chicken Pasta Bowls, Sangria Cups, Vegan Pepper Peppered Pasta, Gluten-Free Meatballs and Garlic Mushrooms, and some vegetarian dishes as well.

If you’re looking for something to really tickle your taste buds, then you can count on Hillbillys Noodle Bar, who will be serving up Chinese-style noodles with a choice of toppings: stir-fry and vegetables, chicken curry, chicken and black bean (GF), and sweet and sour chicken (GF). (All of which can be made vegan by eliminating the meat and adding more veggies and sides!) There will also be gluten-free rice with stir-fry vegetables.

For those of you who relish in the glory and simplicity of a good burger when at a festival, then Jim’s Burger Van will have you covered. With all the classic festival essentials, such as burgers and hot dogs, as well as a selection of breakfast options, including vegetarian options too, you’ll be well-fueled for a full day of dancing.

As well as great food, you can be assured of a decent coffee in the morning from Splitscreen Coffee, who will be there to supply you with that all-important caffeine fix as well as iced coffees, teas, traybakes, and more!

Wild on the Wall is a family event where everyone is welcome, from tiny tots, to spritely seniors and everyone in between – You can even bring your dog!
