Festival of Running to bring Community, Families and Runners together in Workington
Festival of Running to bring Community, Families and Runners together in Workington
The Festival of Running is set to bring runners, families and the wider community together in Workington on Sunday 2 August from 9.30am, with four races taking place throughout the day and opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to get involved.
More than just a race day, the Festival of Running aims to create a welcoming community event where people can come together to take part, support friends and family, enjoy the atmosphere and experience everything the day has to offer. The programme includes a Half Marathon, 10K, 5K and a free 1K Fun Run, offering something for experienced runners, first-time racers, younger participants and families.
A key part of the Festival’s development has been its partnership with Cumberland AC (CAC), whose experience, knowledge and commitment to athletics have been invaluable in helping shape the running programme. Their involvement is helping ensure the event provides a safe, enjoyable and professionally delivered experience for runners, while creating an inclusive event that encourages people to get active and take part, whatever their experience or ability.
Runners can also enjoy some fantastic extras as part of the event, with free massage available for all runners and free food vouchers for everyone taking part in the Half Marathon and 10K.
Alongside the four races, the Festival of Running will offer free family entertainment, activities and entertainment, creating a great day out for participants and spectators alike. Whether you’re chasing a personal best, taking on your first race, supporting a friend or simply coming along to cheer on the runners, the Festival is designed to be a celebration of movement, community and the joy of being active together.
The event forms part of a wider programme of community events and cultural activity being delivered across the town by Everyone Here and Workington Town Council, creating opportunities for people to come together, get involved and celebrate the town and its communities.
The organisers are also keen to welcome visitors from further afield and are working with local accommodation providers to make it easier for runners and their supporters to turn the event into a West Cumbrian getaway.
Visitors travelling to the Festival can take advantage of a 15% accommodation discount at Washington Central Hotel or Sleepwell Inn in Workington. Simply use the code RUN when booking to receive the discount. The offer provides an opportunity for participants to stay locally, explore the area and make more of their visit to West Cumbria.
With four races, free family entertainment, activities and plenty to enjoy throughout the day, the Festival of Running promises to be an event for the whole community, while also showcasing West Cumbria as a welcoming destination for visitors looking to combine an active day out with a great experience.
