Vote for Change with Community Choices
It’s over to you. Cumbrian’s have been given the chance to improve their community, by choosing the change they want to see.
If anyone knows what needs to be done to ensure that Cumbria has a bright future, it is the members of the community themselves. The Community Choices scheme was launched to give people the opportunity to improve their community, by voting for the projects they want to see supported by the campaign.
The scheme, launched in January by Sellafield Ltd, offers not-for-profit organisations the chance to apply for grants, with the public then voting for the projects they want to receive funding. Since the scheme was announced, community groups and charities across Allerdale and Copeland have been applying, in the hope that this funding will turn their projects into a reality.
With the shortlist of projects now revealed and voting open to public, it is time for the people of Cumbria to cast their votes and decide which of the worthy projects in the running will receive up to £50,00 of funding from the inaugural Community Choices campaign. Ultimately, the residents of Cumbria will have the deciding say on how to make Cumbria a better place to live.
Helen Fisher, Head of Social Impact at Sellafield Ltd, said: “Community Choices is all about local people taking the future of their area into their own hands.
“This is an opportunity to support the charities and community groups people value most.
“It also gives those charities and community groups a fantastic platform to showcase the great work they do.”
The 43 finalists have been sorted into five categories; Supporting the Younger Generation, Improving Health and Wellbeing, Improving Social Inclusion, Improving Cumbria and Supporting Stronger Communities. Voting is open until 26th March and members of the public can vote up to a total of 10 times.
Helen said: “We are looking to support projects which people value the most. I’d urge everyone who cares about their community to get voting.”
The scheme is supported by partners CN Group, CFM, Phoenix Enterprise Centre and Cumbria Community Foundation.
