Threads of Agora is a stylish and welcoming boutique located on Cockermouth’s Main Street. Offering a wide selection of women’s and children’s clothing — from sportswear to occasionwear — the boutique has quickly become a go-to destination for those seeking affordable, fashionable outfits.
Recently, they’ve expanded their range to include school uniforms, making it even more convenient for local families to shop for high-quality essentials all in one place.

Owner Samantha McMullen opened the store in 2024 after noticing a gap in the market. She felt that younger generations lacked access to contemporary, good-quality fashion on the high street. Determined to change that, she brought Threads of Agora to life.
“There are lots of lovely shops in Cockermouth,” Samantha said, “but there really wasn’t anywhere that stocked clothes for younger people. Although lots of people shop online now, having access to a physical shop where you can touch and try on the clothes makes a huge difference. Since opening, the feedback we’ve received has been fantastic!”

In response to the rising cost of school uniforms, Samantha made the decision to stock a full range of affordable uniforms for children aged 3–4 years up to 12–13 years, in a variety of colours. The store offers two types of polo shirts: the premium-quality Russell cotton polos, known for their durability and comfort, and a lightweight, breathable alternative — ideal for kids who tend to get warm. The cooler option also includes added stretch, helping younger children dress themselves more easily.
While uniform order forms are available in-store, Threads of Agora currently holds such a high level of stock that many customers can shop off the shelf. To ensure ongoing accessibility, the store plans to keep order forms available year-round, allowing parents to order what they need at any time.
