The Romans are coming to The Beacon
The Romans are coming to The Beacon this Summer and you are all invited.
The team at The Beacon Museum has been busy as ever lining up a variety of exhibitions, ensuring there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
The Romans are coming to The Beacon…‘Are We There Yet?’ runs from April 29th until October 1st.
‘Are we there yet?’ looks at the journey the Romans took as they marched across the UK, including their journey through Cumbria.
You will see a variety of exhibits, create a mosaic and there will be handling sessions to ensure the kids get an up-close and personal experience.
Bringing Romans to Life
Not long ago, a skull was found in southwest Cumbria and is thought to be that of a Roman soldier. The skull in question has been sent to experts across the UK, and it will be reconstructed over the summer, literally bringing Romans to life.
This will be worth coming back to time and again to see the transformation over the summer and the outcome, allowing you to come face to face with a real Roman.
Titanic Exhibition
One exhibition that will certainly go down well will be the upcoming ‘Titanic’ exhibition, which runs from June 17th through to September.
There will be many exhibits from the real Titanic as well as memorabilia from the 1997 smash hit film ‘Titanic’ The exhibition pieces are from a private collection, and this will be the first time they have been displayed in Cumbria.
Talks will take place throughout the summer, so be sure to follow the Beacon Museum for updates and information.
Tobias and The Angel – This is your last chance to see Verrocchio’s 15th century Masterpiece as the exhibition finishes on June 4th.
The oil painting from the renowned 15th century master shows the archangel Raphael guiding Tobias and his dog through the countryside, to collect a debt owed to his blind father.
As well as the permanent exhibitions at The Beacon Museum, during the summer there will also be a packed programme of events for the kids to enjoy, ensuring a fantastic day out for the whole family.
