Subaru UK marked ‘National Walk Your Dog Day’ by hosting a dog-friendly test drive event, inviting customers to bring their four-legged companions along to participating retailers.
The initiative followed research commissioned by the brand, which found that while 80% of dog owners said their pet influenced their car-buying decisions, only 20% had actually test driven a vehicle with their dog before making a purchase. Subaru said the campaign was designed to help owners make more informed choices, taking their dog’s comfort, space and safety into account.

The survey also highlighted gaps in awareness around legal and safe dog transportation. One in five dog owners admitted to travelling without properly securing their pet, something that can result in a £5,000 fine and invalidated insurance. Many respondents were also unaware of best practice, including the use of crash-tested harnesses or crates, fitting dog guards in the boot of an estate or SUV, and deactivating airbags when a dog is travelling in the front seat.

Throughout the campaign, Subaru retailers offered practical safety advice alongside the opportunity to try models such as the Outback, Forester and Crosstrek with dogs on board, combining a light-hearted experience with a serious road safety message.
