Starters and the Main Event
Hundith Hill has recently welcomed a brand new head chef into their kitchen.
by Danni Murphy
Darren has been in the industry for most of his working life and over the last 15 years has worked all over Cumbria in some of the most popular establishments around the county and has now taken the reins at Hundith Hill.

His food style is traditional, seasonal food with a twist. An example of this is his salmon and black pudding Wellington which he introduced to the new menu. It went down a storm with diners and there’s loads more to come. Darren said: “I like to take traditional dishes and mix it up a bit. In the future, I am hoping to introduce seasonal menus which will incorporate a variety of dishes fitting with the changing seasons and also use fresh, local produce where possible.”

As a well-known wedding venue, the Hundith Hill Hotel also plays host to a multitude of events, most recently they were the setting for the Young Chef of the Year Awards. A culinary celebration, as chefs and students gathered to experience the finest flavors of Cumbria at the prestigious DeliFresh Ltd winners event.
The highlight of the event was the recognition of the Young Chef of the Year, an esteemed award presented to talented individuals who showcase exceptional culinary prowess. Winners of this esteemed accolade had the exclusive opportunity to spend a day at the renowned Hundith Hill Hotel in Cockermouth, delving into the art of gastronomy while immersing themselves in the rich heritage of Cumbrian produce.

Paul De-Costa-Grieves, organiser of the event said:
“I have to express, from the depths of my heart, that having been in and worked with numerous kitchens throughout my career, Joan and Phil at the Hundith Hill should feel immensely proud. Their kitchen not only exceeded expectations but stood out as the cleanest I’ve ever encountered (aside from my own, of course).
The young chefs of the year and the DeliFresh team were equally enamored with the hotel, the impeccable kitchens, and the serene ambiance it offers. I am genuinely humbled and grateful for the exceptional experience.”

Hundith Hill is a fantastic place to dine, the beautiful surroundings of the Lorton Valley make for an outstanding experience, partnered with their exciting new menu and the choice to dine either in their comfortable dining room or contemporary bar, it’s the perfect setting for a stunning meal. They also serve afternoon teas and lunch as well as Sunday roasts. Hundith Hill is a great place to dine with friends, family, or as a couple,
whether it’s to mark a special occasion or just an excuse to avoid the dishes!
