Make New And Mend – Make This One A Crafted Christmas!
If you are a creative person who has a passion for making beautiful things then Make New and Mend might be your idea of heaven. They have recently bought out a local fabric shop which was closing its doors so have loads of gorgeous new fabrics, including some lovely festive pieces ideal for those looking to get crafty this season.
More of a hub, Make New and Mend is a space for creatives to come together, buy essentials for sewing and even enjoy a slice of cake! Penny Chubb, Owner said: “Every penny we make goes straight back into the business, we are all about being a community base for people who love the hobby. We have a wonderful range of ages who come and get involved its just a great atmosphere.”
Whether you are a beginner or a pro, everyone is welcome to come and join in and learn. They have recently expanded their range of stock as well as their numbers and even started branching out from being primarily a sewing hub, Penny said: “We have now increased our capacity and we are also now holding felting and crocheting workshops on top of the other workshops and classes we run.”
If you are looking to treat someone to a new sewing machine this Christmas then you don’t have to look far. Head over to Make New and Mend as they are now collaborating with Carlisle based Superior Sewing Center and selling machines. This allows customers to come and physically see the machine and more importantly gain advice and knowledge from Penny and her team – A benefit you simply don’t get by purchasing online!
Make New and Mend are also opening their doors to the public as a Warm Space this Winter. This means if you or someone you know is looking for somewhere warm to spend the afternoon then you can pop over to Make New and Mend – you are not required to buy anything, just come and take advantage of the heat!
Don’t forget they also have their little cafe which is open to anyone and everyone to pop in and enjoy a lovely bowl of homemade soup or a cuppa and slice of cake!
Their opening hours have recently been updated and they are now open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Whether you are a talented seamstress or just learning the basics everyone is welcome to come and have a chat, learn and ultimately enjoy the hobby in a lovely social environment.
Keep your eyes on their socials for updates and upcoming events and workshops. Keep creating!
Make New and Mend can be found on Facebook, Instagram and they now also have an online Etsy shop where fabrics are regularly uploaded for mail order – so if you cant make it to the store you can always buy online!
